Cooking Great Meals in Your RV
When you’re traveling in your RV, some tasks that you have to do may seem more taxing than you would like, considering you’re on vacation. Cooking is one of those tasks, especially if you’re traveling in the hot, muggy South. Here are some helpful tips on how to easily prepare meals in your RV that are filling and delicious with less effort.
Batch-Cook at Home
If you’ve got time and energy before your trip, it can be helpful to prepare large batches of hot dinners you and your family enjoy. You can then portion these out into Tupperware containers, pop them in the camper’s freezer, and simply microwave them when you’re ready to eat them. Lasagna, chili, stews, and casseroles are great for this.
Try Cold Meals
Many healthy and delicious meals don’t require you to turn on your stove or oven at all. Bound salads made with leftover pasta and canned meats are easy to put together. A veggie tray with dips can be a great appetizer that ensures your kids get their vegetables. Sandwiches, chips, and pickles will make a great lunch on a hot day. Breakfast parfaits made from fresh fruit, granola, and yogurt are easy and filling in the morning.
Clean As You Go
As you cook in your small RV kitchen, you’ll quickly run out of space. You’ll need to clean up as you go to ensure you’ve got room to prepare your food. Rinse knives and cutting boards immediately, scrape vegetable cuttings into the compost, and put away ingredients as you use them. Keep a damp rag handy to wipe up spills immediately so you won’t have lots of sticky spots to scrape up later.
